Drain relining advice

What Happens After Drain Relining?

Drain relining handover covers reopened connections, return to use, visible completion checks and a traceable property or asset record.

HomeAdvice30 July 2026

The handover starts while the crew is still on site. What happens after drain relining includes reopening planned connections, checking the visible repair, confirming return to use and filing a location another technician can follow.

Keep the repair description with the property or asset record. It should identify the treated section and any limitations or follow-up work. That gives a future drainage technician something more useful than a claim that the pipe was “done”. What happens after drain relining should be agreed before installation, including handback and the records left behind.

Final CCTV confirms the visible liner and reopened branches

The post-work inspection should cover both liner ends, changes in profile and every branch reopened after installation. A smooth central section alone does not show whether the transitions were finished correctly.

Some observations may need explanation rather than a quick judgement from a still image. Ask how the visible result is assessed against the selected system and agreed work. Anything outside the lining limits should remain clearly separate from the completed repair.

Liner ends, connections and excluded pipe sections

  • The pre-work survey and final agreed repair details.
  • Any changes approved after cleaning.
  • Completion CCTV with identifiable locations.
  • The type and limits of the installed liner.
  • Connections reopened or treated during the work.
  • Exclusions and any follow-up inspection advised.

Close the job while its details are still clear

01

Inspect the pipe

Inspect the complete repair, including its ends, bore and visible branch openings.

02

Match the completed work

Compare the installed limits with the approved repair boundary and note any agreed change.

03

Save completion records

Identify the buried repair in the property or asset record so a future technician can find it.

04

Monitor the drain

Report returning symptoms with reference to the treated and untreated routes.

Using the drain after completion

Follow the specific instructions provided for the installed system and site. Once the drain is returned to normal use, keep the records with property or asset information. If a later blockage occurs, the next survey can distinguish the liner from pipework upstream, downstream or in a branch.

Our repair-record guidance explains what should stay with the property. If the treated length or a follow-up note is unclear, provide the quotation and completion pack together so their before-and-after references can be compared on the same drain.

Records and faults after relining

Post-work inspection. This records the treated bore, ends and connections. Ask for it as part of the agreed handover.

A later blockage. Investigate its location before assuming the liner caused it. The issue may be in a branch or an untreated section of the drainage system.

Storage of repair records. Keep them with property, maintenance or asset files so future owners and contractors can identify the underground work.
