Full-Length Drain Lining

Full-length drain lining treats a measured run containing several related defects. The survey must account for its bends, changes in diameter and incoming branches.

Full-length drain lining installs one continuous internal liner through a defined section of pipe. It is considered when several defects affect the same supported run and individual patches would leave gaps between repairs.

The installation plan must account for bends and every incoming branch. During curing those branch openings are covered; afterwards the lining technician reopens the ones that must remain live. A long liner is therefore chosen from the complete route and connection plan, not simply from an estimated pipe length. Full-length drain lining is most useful when the continuous boundary can be justified from the survey.

One failed section can interrupt an otherwise supported run

Where repeated cracks continue through supported pipe but one short portion has collapsed, the failed portion needs separate treatment. Extending a liner through it would preserve the loss of shape.

A focused replacement at the collapse and lining of the sound sections may be considered separately rather than presented as one method.

Trace every bend and branch in the lining length

Ask the camera operator to record one uninterrupted journey across the proposed lining length. Bends, diameter changes and every incoming branch have to be marked because each can change how the liner is introduced or finished.

Side connections need deliberate planning because the liner covers their openings during installation. They are located beforehand and reopened after curing where required. A proposal should identify those connections, rather than assuming there are none because they were hard to see on poor footage.

Full-run footage, branches and access points

The survey needs one continuous view from the entry chamber to the planned finish. It should identify every branch in that length and note any connection that cannot be taken out of use during installation.

A record of previous repairs, clearing work or faults further along the same system. Any planned building or drainage alterations that could affect the lined route.

Damage that extends beyond one patch

A run with repeated cracking, several leaking joints or widespread internal wear may benefit from one joined repair. The liner bridges the affected length and leaves a consistent internal bore. This can be particularly useful beneath buildings, parking areas and established surfaces where a conventional replacement would create extensive reinstatement work.

Condition sets the limit. A liner needs support and a continuous route through the pipe. A badly flattened section, collapse or fixed obstruction blocks that route; the drainage company then marks the replacement length and checks whether the adjoining pipe is still suitable for lining.

The old pipe becomes the mould

The existing drain becomes the mould for the new liner, so preparation affects the finish. The crew removes material that would stop the liner sitting against the wall, then inspects the cleaned bore. Cleaning can expose faults hidden behind roots or scale. If the new footage changes the repair length, the drainage company shows the finding and revises its quotation before installation. The liner is not fitted over a surface that the camera still cannot verify.

Installation from the entry chamber to final CCTV

The lining technician prepares the resin system for the measured run and introduces it through the agreed entry point. The liner is expanded against the old wall and held while it cures. Occupants or site staff control connected water use for that period.

Once cured, the installer trims the ends and reopens the identified lateral connections. We then inspect the completed bore with a camera, paying attention to the ends, junctions and any visible change in profile. The footage is checked against the agreed repair details, so completion means more than seeing an apparently smooth central section.

Drain lining completion records

The handover identifies where the liner begins and ends, which branches were reopened and any section excluded from the work. Save it with the property or asset record so a later technician can locate the buried repair.

The quotation still needs exact start and finish points

“Full-length” describes the exact section agreed on one drain run. It does not mean every pipe at the property. The survey and price should carry the same start and finish references.

Before installation, the survey locates every relevant connection inside the proposed lining section. The installer reopens those included in the repair plan, and final CCTV records their visible condition.

A liner cannot pass through a serious collapse. That section may need to be excavated and replaced first, after which the pipework on either side can be assessed separately for lining.

The affected drain will have periods when flow must stop or be managed during installation. The provider should identify the connected facilities and agree those working times before starting.
