Root ingress drain repair has two parts: remove the roots from the bore, then close the crack or joint through which they entered. Whether that opening can be treated internally depends on the surrounding pipe.
After cutting, the technician checks whether the root mass hid a small joint gap, a fractured pipe or more serious movement. A supported opening may be sealed internally. If roots have displaced or broken the pipe, excavation is needed to rebuild that section and deal with the surrounding condition. Roots may return somewhere the liner did not cover
If one joint is sealed but an upstream lateral remains open, new growth can appear in the same survey run without passing through the repaired point.
Follow-up should distinguish failure at the treated defect from a separate opening elsewhere.
Remove roots and seal suitable entry points
A dense cluster can hide more than one joint. The camera follows the run beyond the obvious mass and records each affected position from a chamber. Adjacent pipe is also inspected for cracking or movement. If roots have entered through one contained fault, a local drain patch may seal it while leaving sound sections alone.
Tell us what happened after the roots were cut
After cutting, mark each exposed root entry against a fixed access point and direction. Show the pipe on both sides so one opened joint is not mistaken for a longer fractured section.
Check how roots entered and where they may return
Root cutting restores access. The cleaned pipe then has to show the opening that admitted the growth and the condition of nearby joints.
Open the bore
Remove root fibres and trapped debris until the opening in the pipe can be seen. The cutting technician should record whether growth entered through a joint, crack or displaced section rather than list “roots” as the whole diagnosis.
Close the entry
An internal patch can seal a contained root opening when the pipe around it remains stable. Wider movement or collapse needs direct replacement; cutting and covering the visible growth would not rebuild the failed section.
Can roots come back?
