The patch lining, full liner or excavation guide compares three repair scales. The choice starts with the length of damage, condition of the surrounding pipe and whether the route still has support.
One contained fault with sound pipe around it
A short patch can cover a local crack, open joint or root entry point when the full defect is visible and sound pipe remains on both sides. The packer still needs a passable route. A nearby branch or fracture can change the patch position.
Damage continuing through a stable run
A continuous liner becomes relevant where cracks or open joints extend through a defined, supported section. Branches and bends on the installation route need locating first. A camera reaching the damage does not prove the lining equipment can follow.
Lost shape, alignment or support
A collapsed section, severe displacement or failed bedding needs direct reconstruction. An internal sleeve cannot push the pipe back into line or rebuild missing support.
One failed point can be rebuilt while separate supported cracking beyond it is considered for lining. Both limits should appear on the same survey.
