Drain patch lining is a local repair for a crack, open joint or similar contained defect. The patch overlaps stable pipe on both sides, so its position must be measured rather than chosen from one isolated camera frame.
Positioning is the critical task. The patching technician marks the distance, wraps the resin material around a packer and moves it to the fault without twisting it. Junctions close to the damage need particular care because an oversized or misplaced patch can narrow an opening that must remain in service. A branch can sit too close to the edge of a patch
A contained crack may appear suitable until the measured repair length reaches an incoming connection. The choice is then between a different patch position, a longer liner with planned branch work or another repair.

Patching stops making sense when the footage shows several defects or deterioration continuing beyond one location. A longer liner treats an extended but stable run; severe deformation, displacement or a lost bore calls for direct access. The quotation needs to tie that choice to the measured survey positions.
Give the patch a clean, stable landing
A patch cannot bond properly over grease, roots, scale or loose debris. The crew cleans the affected area and then checks it again by camera. This second look is important because deposits sometimes conceal the true edges of a crack or reveal damage that changes the proposed repair.
The insertion route and working space around the chamber also need checking. The patch must travel from an access point to the marked position without catching or turning. Where a drain remains in use, the site and appointed company agree when flow can pause during curing.
Fault location, pipe size and patch access
The patching technician needs a repeatable position, the measured length of the fault and sound landing space at both ends. Mark any branch close enough to be affected and include the working space around the insertion point.
Positioning the packer over the fault
Once the pipe is clean, the installer prepares a resin and reinforcement system for the measured repair area. The material is wrapped around an installation packer, moved through the drain and aligned with the defect. The packer holds it firmly against the pipe wall while it cures.
After curing, the packer is removed and the repaired area is inspected. The final camera pass should show both ends of the patch, its internal surface and any nearby connection that needs to remain clear. The survey record notes where the patch sits so the repair can be identified during later maintenance or building work.
There is practical skill in positioning a local liner. A patch that misses part of the crack cannot complete the intended repair. One that is poorly placed near a junction can obstruct flow. Keep a local repair within its measured limits
