CCTV, access and pipe condition before lining

From dirty pipe to cured repair

Record the damaged section

How drain relining works changes with the fault. A short patch can bridge one cracked joint; a continuous liner treats damage spread along a run. Neither method can straighten a crushed pipe or restore missing support, so the first task is to expose the wall and mark the actual repair limits.

The lining technician also needs a route for the installation equipment, space at the entry point and a plan for every branch inside the repair. Those details decide how the resin system is positioned, cured and trimmed. Excavation remains the honest answer where the pipe has lost its shape or cannot be reached internally.

What the lining technician does to the pipe

Camera work starts at an identifiable chamber and continues beyond the reported fault. Once roots, scale or deposits are removed, the newly visible wall shows where the patch or liner can begin and end.

CCTV, access and pipe condition before lining

  • The start and finish of the repair.
  • Pipe condition and a passable installation route.
  • Cleaning or cutting needed for preparation.
  • Branches, bends and changes in bore.
  • How connected drainage use will be controlled.

From dirty pipe to cured repair

01

Record the damaged section

The camera operator marks the fault in relation to a fixed access point and follows the run beyond it. That gives the lining technician a position to return to, without pretending the inspection itself proves which repair will fit.

02

Clean the pipe

Cleaning exposes the surface, then another camera pass checks the selected method against the revealed condition.

03

Fit the liner through existing access

The installer positions the patch or liner and holds it against the host while it cures.

04

Inspect the cured liner with CCTV

The installer trims ends, treats required connections and inspects the visible result.

Details that change the installation

Access, liner type, curing approach and drainage restrictions are specific to the site. The identified drainage company sets these out in its quotation. Read about CIPP lining or compare lining with excavation .

Already have a survey? Its chamber reference, measured defect and view of the surrounding pipe are the useful starting points for discussing this process.

How Drain Relining Works FAQs

Does the drain need to be clean?

Yes. Preparation removes material that obscures the wall or interferes with positioning, then CCTV confirms the working surface.

What happens to side connections?

Before the liner goes in, the installer marks every branch included in the repair plan. Those openings are found and reopened after curing.

How is the finished repair checked?

A final camera pass records the bore, liner ends and visible connection treatment against the agreed limits.
